Students may use calculators on the GA Milestones Mathematics assessment to be administered Monday, April 24 and Tuesday, April 25, 2017. While no item on the math assessment requires a calculator to answer, parents can provide an approved calculator for their student to use.

*Is the school obligated to provide calculators to students who cannot provide their own?*- Schools are not obligated to provide calculators to students.
- Schools are expected to allow students the choice to use a calculator brought from home.
- Students cannot borrow a calculator from a teacher.

*Does the math assessment require the use of a calculator?***None of the math problems require the use of a calculator.**- Calculators are not allowed for any student on Section 1, Part A – Even as an accommodation.

*What type of calculator can students use?*- Students cannot use smart devices such as cell phones, tablets, iPods, or any “app” with calculator functions – it has to be 100% calculator.
**6**^{th}**grade may use a basic four-function calculator**that has a percent and square root function.**7**^{th}**and 8**^{th}**grades may use a basic calculator or a scientific calculator**with memory capabilities; however, the memory must be cleared before and after testing. Students cannot use graphing calculators.

*When does my student need to bring his or her calculator to school?*- Students may start bringing their calculators to their math teachers
**now**to verify they have the correct kind. **Calculators must be given to the homeroom teacher on Monday and Tuesday, April 17 and April 18, before the GA Milestones begins.**- Please make sure the student name is on the calculator (tape or marker).
