I will be updating all grades over the weekend! Many students have turned in missing assignments, so be on the lookout for updated grades!!!
Parents and Students:
I have informed students of their missing work. They have been given the opportunity to make up missing work for a deduction in grade. Many of these missing assignments are vital to their final grades!
I will make comments on progress reports regarding missing work; however, I will not accept any late assignments after Tuesday the 27th! Many of the missing assignments go back over three weeks. Organization and hard work are essential to becoming exceptional scholars!
If you have any questions are concerns please feel free to e-mail me ( wendy.wood@cobbk12.org ).
8th Grade Language Arts
I have looked over many of the mock writing tests over our break, and I believe that we need to spend more time looking at the Georgia Department of Education Rubrics for the 8th Grade Writing Assessment. This week be prepared to become a "scorer" for last year's assessment! We will collaboratively work together to see exactly how to prepare a warranted and successful persuasive essay!
Don't forget about all of the activities we have performed that has gotten us here!!! We have spent time debating, dissecting famous speeches, developing advertisements, and creating our own Public Service Announcements!
7th Grade Language Arts
We will finalize our Response to Literature Unit on Tuesday. We have had a great time sharing our beliefs as literary critics.
We will begin our Persuasive Unit this week! Be prepared to learn the importance of persuasion! After all, we are surrounded by persuasion every day!!!
7th Grade Social Studies
We will begin our North Africa investigation through a "web quest." We will try to answer the question: Are North Africa and the Middle East twins?
Friendly Reminder: Your Independent Study Projects are due on Tuesday the 27th! I will not accept these late because of the extra credit opportunity. This grade will not be on your progress reports! This grade will help many of you pull your grade up! This will help many of you who did not perform well on the Unit Five Test!!!
8th Grade Language Arts:
I am still entering grades for the Final Narratives, so you should be able to see your updated grades by 11/18/2007.
We have been working very hard throughout our Persuasion Unit. This unit is very important because we all need to understand the value of persuasion. This type of writing will be featured on the 8th Grade Georgia Writing Assessment in January.
Next week:
We will continue our journey through persuasion through a mock writing test. After Thanksgiving Break, I will conference with each student about their strengths and weaknesses. We will spend a great deal of time looking at the expectations of the 8th Grade Writing Assessment. I know that the students at Daniell can conquer this test!
7th Grade Language Arts:
I am still entering grades for the Final Narratives. The updated grades will be available by 11/18/2007.
We are continuing our journey through our Response to Literature Unit. We have read great literature, and we have responded through various means! On Friday we completed a Cubing Project where the students utilized their own questions to provide warranted responses to literature. It was a great time!
On Tuesday the 20th, we will turn our classroom into a "coffee shop" (minus the coffee)! We will have hot chocolate and treats as we take some time to share our short stories. Check back for pictures next week!
7th Grade Social Studies:
We wrapped Unit V : Conflict and Compromise in Contemporary SWA this week! We will test on Tuesday the 20th. This will be our final unit for the region of Southwest Asia. I believe the students made connections to the connections of the past to the present through this unit. We worked very hard to answer our essential question: How does the past shape the present.
When we return from our break, we will dive into North Africa!
To all of my students and their parents: I am very thankful for you all! Have a WONDERFUL break!!!
