Week of February 9th

This week we are going to be studying waver interactions.  By the end of the week you should unbderstand reflection, refraction, diffraction, and How waves are affected by different mediums. Be prepared to have a test on wave properties and interactions next tuesday & wednesday.

Day 1: Introduction to wave interactions; Wave deomnstration: we will see how wave change as the change mediums. Notes: Chpater 20 section 3

Day 2: WAve activities

Day 3: review for next weeks Test on Waves

Week of 2-2

Moday/Tuesday - Properties of waves - we will learn about amplitude, wavelength, and frequency.  Homework this week complete the section review for chapte 20 sections 1 & 2 (5th and 6th period only have to complete section 2)

Wednesday - Wave quiz - Be prepared for a quiz on wave properties.

Thursday/Friday - Homework is due.  We will continue investigating wave properties.

Periodic Table (Week of Dec. 8)

This week we are finishing our study of the periodic table.  Home work this week is to study for your test which will be during your thrusday/friday class.

Monday/Tuesday - Periodic properties.  During class today you will do some activities to help you understand the arrangment of elements on the periodic table.

Wednesday - Review for test

Thursday/Friday - Periodic Table Test

Week of December 1st

This week we will start studying the periodic table of the elements and how it is organized. In addition to the periodic table we will also begin a review of this semester so we can start preparing for our midterm.  Although there is no assigned homework, you should review your notes or Chapter 12 of your textbook for 10-15 min each night.

Day 1 - Today you will be introduced to the periodic table of the elements by arranging a deck of cards into different pattern.  We will take time to discuss as a class different methods of arranging the card and how the activity models arranging the elements into a table.

Day 2 - notes - we will take notes on the arrangement of the periodic table

Day 3 - Periodic table activity / Quiz

Classification of matter

This week we will finish our unit on classifying matter and move on to our new unit, properties and changes in matter.

homework: Study for test on classifying matter:

Study guide: Download classifying_matter_review_guide.doc

Day 1: We will finish learning about the states of matter by modeling the particle movement in the three common state of matter.

Day 2: Classifying matter Test

Day 3: Benchmark Test, Properties of matter (Dry Ice Investigations)

Elements, Compounds, Mixtures Continued

This week we will continue learning about elements, compounds and mixtures.

Homework: Complete the worksheet on elements compounds and mixtures. Download e_c_m_homework.pdf

Day 1: Notes on elements, compounds, and mixtures; Video  http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1155269983/bctid1396941697                                      Click on the link above to watch the video again.

Day 2: Classifying elements compounds and mixtures

Day 3: Quiz, States of matter

Elements, Compounds, Mixtures

In Class this week will begin our unit on chemistry. As we start learning about matter we are going to focus on the small particles that make up matter (atoms) and learn to classify matter as elements, compounds, and mixtures.

Day 1: Elements, compounds, Mixtures: We will use molecular models to distinguish between elements compounds and mixtures.

Day 2: Atoms & Molecules: We will learn about atoms, the small particles that make up matter and combine to create new substances (molecules and compounds)

Day 3: Review of elements, compounds, mixtures, atoms, and molecules.  After review there will be a short quiz.

Simple Machines

This week we will finish studying simple machines and move on to our Chemistry unit.  For Homework this week you need to study for you simple machines test which will be on Wednesday 10/8.

Sudy Guide: Download simple_machines_review.pdf

Day 1: Simple Machines Review & Potential & Kinetic energy

Day 2: SIMPLE MACHINES TEST

Day 3: NATURE OF MATTER UNIT

Extra Credit: Give one example of each simple machine that you can find in your home. (Lever, inclined plane, wheel & Axle, wedge, screw, pulley)

Simple Machines

This week we will investigate how simple machines effect work.

Class 1: Pulleys lab: During this lab you will build three types of pulleys and investigate how each type effect work

Class 2: Discussion/ NOte: We will take time to discuss the results of our pulley lab and take note on machines

Class 3: Inclined plane Lab: During this lab we will investigate how inclined planes effect work.
