Oct. 24-28 Mystery Story Week

We are focusing on Mystery Stories during Conference Week. Most of our work will be completed in class, so not much homework will be coming to the students.

Monday---Word Splash and categorizing of 23 mystery-type words. Chart completed on the elements of a mystery story.

Tuesday--Crossword puzzle using these words

Wednesday--4 choices of story starters for their own mystery story

Thursday--A cloze reading of a ghost story/ writing mystery stories

Friday--Reading of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and word search

Language Arts--Oct. 17-22

This week we will focus on Figurative Language, Poetry, and writing instructions--Wow!

We are also spending time with Prepositional Phrases and will soon be working on a Prepositional Map using 25 different prepositional phrase!

Monday: Prepositional worksheet for homework

Tuesday: Complete a Figurative Language Illustration and begin our poems--several choices will be given. Prepositional phrase worksheet for homework.

Wednesday/Thursday: Continue with poetry and work on writing instructions; preposition worksheet for homework

Friday: Quiz on Prepositional Phrases, complete poetry and instructions.

Next week is Conference Week so please be sure to come to your appointed time. It is also Early Release!  We will enjoy Mystery Stories that week--reading "The War of the Worlds" and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"= yikes!

 

Oct. 10-14 Verbs, Figurative Language, Poetry

This week has alot of tests in Language Arts--Tues/Wed. is the Open Note DGP Test

Thursday/Friday is the Verb Test on Action, Linking, and Helping Verb Phrase. The students should refer to their worksheets for the study guide.

We will begin learning about Figurative Language through a power point and graphic organizer as well as practice using these fun writing tools in our own stories.

Please return immediately the Conference Forms so that the teacher know if you can come at the appointed time. We will do all we can to accomodate everyone. Just let us know!!

Next  Tues/Wed.--10/11and 10/12---DGP Open Note Test #2 on DGP #4,5,6

Next Thurs/Fri--10/13 and 10/14--Final Test on Action, Linking, Helping Verbs

Study all worksheets, verb flip book for the verb test

Bring in all completed DGP's for week's 4-6 to use for the open note test.

We are also writing friendly letters that can be mailed if the student brings in a stamp!!

Oct.3-7th Language Arts

This week we will complete typing our Personal Narratives on Monday, study Helping Verbs, and begin our unit on Technical Writing. This unit is comprised of letter writing, poetry, instruction writing, and figurative language. We are continuing our verb study with Helping Verbs and Verb Phrases.

Monday: Completed typing narratives and handed the Choice Board Activity Test

Tuesday: DGP #6, Helping Verbs, introduction to letter writing---homework on Helping Verbs

Wednesday/Thursday:DGP #6, check Helping Verb homework,continue with writing letters--homework on Verbs continues.

Friday/Monday: DGP #6, finish verb types, continue with business, friendly, thank you letters.
