In Georgia studies, students used a chart and a video clip on the Southern colonies to create a mind map with details and illustrations to demonstrate an understanding of the Southern colonies with a focus on the Georgia colony in particular.  No homework.

In reading we are working with Unit 2 The Novel Genre and are reading the novel "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry which deals with segregation and race relations in Mississippi in the 1930's."  We have been constructing picture murals of symbols that relate to the characters moods and feelings in the book and symbols of major events linked to the book's plot and conflict.  Students are also comparing and contrasting the family's lives in the book to their lives today.  Today in class students watched some video clips about segregation in the South and the Civil Rights book and listened to a short nonfiction reading about Rosa Parks.  Students found similarities from the video and the Rosa Parks book to events that are happening in Roll of Thunder.
