Today in class students worked on ABC summaries to summarize the plot of All Summer in a Day and worked on pronoun cases as well. Continue memorizing poems for Poet's Cafe next week.
I would like to encourage students to enter the Kennesaw Mountain Writer's Project Writers of Promise Contest. Interested students will receive materials about the contest in class tomorrow and the essays are due to Kennesaw Univ. by March 1st. The topic of the essays is to write about place and I will assist students with their writing as we go through the process. Today in class students worked on cornell notes about how to do an oral interpretation of their poet's cafe poems in preparation to have poet's cafe on the 1st and 2nd of Feb. Students should be practicing/rehearsing their poems at home nightly.
Today in class students discussed parodies and we looked at some parody examples on the projector. Students will begin writing parodies on Thurs. so they need to choose a folktale/fairy tale at home before Thurs.and print it out that they will change into a parody. Students also turned in the 6 thinking hats activity on Jack and the Beanstalk that was homework from last class.
Today in class students worked on picture murals of figurative language from the story All Summer in a Day and are writing an ending to the story. They will work on their writing assignments more on Monday.
Today in class students turned in their vocabulary products for List #1 and took the quiz over those words. Students also continued working on their body biographies of the characters of Jack and the Beanstalk. Homework is to complete the six thinking hats activity for Jack and the Beanstalk by completing two choices of the six of their choice.
Today in class students worked on sequencing plot events from the story All Summer in a Day and wrote sensory details from the story. Students should be working at home on Poet's Cafe which is due February 1/2.
Today in class students worked with a partner creating body biographies to exhibit symbolism from the story Jack and the Beanstalk. We will be working on this again on Friday after the vocabulary quiz. List #1 products and quiz are Friday, January 20.
Today in class students began reading a new short story "All Summer in a Day" and were analyzing the setting of the story. They took a comprehension quiz upon completion of the reading.
Today in class students analyzed Jack and the Beanstalk for plot, author's purpose, characterization, and figurative language. Student's will be working on body biographies tomorrow and looking at the story from the Ogre's perspective. Vocabulary Product #1 is due this Friday Jan. 20th and students will be having a quiz on vocabulary list #1.
