What an awesome 2010-2011 school year we had! Not only was it one of the best in the school's history academically, but it was also one of the best in extracurricular activities. From breaking previous performance records in areas such as the middle grades writing assessment to bringing home superiors for orchestra and band at the large group performance evaluations, Daniell students were at the top of their game this year. Classroom learning was enhanced through computer assisted tutorials such as USA TestPrep which specically addressed individual learning needs and specialized instruction in SUCCESS classes. Not to be out done, our students also started new clubs such as the Helping Hands Club. In addition, Daniell students gave back to the community through performing at assisted living care centers and Town Center Mall, helping the community through volunteering at homeless pets organizations and senior citizen centers, and spending time improving the campus they attend by planting flowers and purchasing outdoor patio furniture.
Daniell represents a diverse student population who cares about their community, their school, and being their best academically. Our students have shown themselves to be competive with some of the highest performing schools in Georgia and have created a track record of doing so. This doesn't happen by accident. It starts with great parenting and is only enhanced by great teaching. So, on behalf of the faculty and staff of Daniell Middle School, we thank our parents for supporting our students to be their best in so many ways. We appreciate your support and trust in working with your student.
Our teachers have never worked harder to assist our students to help. They have spent countless hours tailoring lessons to meet needs based on performance data, given hours of time tutoring before school, and have worked diligently to make lessons relevant and engaging. We have incredible teachers who believe in their students potential and in developing the capacity of their students ability to better learners.
I also want to make sure we thank our food service personnel who have prepared almost 400 breakfast plates each morning and 1,000 lunches each day of school. They have served the students nutrious meals with a smile and have come to know what so many of our kids like and don't like food wise. Our custodial team has also ensured our students have a clean and safe school each day in which to learn. From helping students find lost coats to helping with jammed lockers, our custodial staff has done an incredible job of helping make sure our school is service oriented and an enjoyable place to learn. Likewise, our PTSA and support staff such as our counselors, office staff, and campus police officer have helped our students in so many ways. From helping with safety issues and making sure the phone is answered from any of our 2,000 parents on a daily basis to providing support for emotional needs of students enduring loss of loved ones or even homes or planning celebrations for students on the honor roll, the Daniell PTSA and support staff have provided top-notch service to our students so that they can focus on learning in the classroom and not the distractions of difficult situations which can even be stressful for adults.
I am honored to be the principal of such an outstanding school which serves such incredible families, teaches so many incredible kids, and houses such incredible people who work with our kids. I thank you for such outstanding support and amazing help in our continued pursuit of striving to provide a world-class education to our learning community! I am excited about our future and the possibilities we can build by working together. Enjoy your summer with your family. Please do not hesitate to call or email me if you have any questions as we continue to close out the 2010-2011 school year or prepare to begin the new 2011-2012 school year.
