To my new 8th graders

goodbye1

The end has officially come!  I hope that you learned a few things this year, and I look forward to seeing what you all do in the future.   Remember, per our discussion in class, the state of Georgia will not be releasing any of the 6th or 7th grade Social Stuides CRCT scores.  This will not impact placements for next year and will look like an exemption on your individual reports.  In spite of not being able to see a report of how we've done, please know that you worked very hard and I think you all were fabulous.

It was my pleasure to teach and inspire you this year.

Drawing to a close...

End

Here are some things you might need to download:

Even though the end is coming does not mean that we are finished; I have been pretty impressed at the students' behavior inside the 4 walls of my room, but it becoming pretty obvious that we are all anxious for summer.  Keep on your A-game so you can end the year well.

Winding down...

Wind up teeth Can you even believe that it is almost the end?!  I mean seriously we have only about 14 more days!!

I wanted parents and students to have a break down of what the rest of the year is looking like:

  • Monday/Tuesday May 4th/5th--Governments of Asia
  • Wednesday May 6th--Finish governments/begin economics
  • Thursday/Friday May 7th/8th--Economics of Asia
  • Monday/Tuesday May 11th/12th--Environmental issues & get study guide
  • Wednesday May 13th--International Festival in gym during SS
  • Thursday/Friday May 14th/15th--TEST AND NOTEBOOK DUE
  • Monday/Wednesday May 18th/20th--Personal Finance standards
  • Tuesday May 19th--Field Day for 7th grade
  • Thursday/Friday May 21st/22nd--different activities based upon the period

There will be probably one more blog entry with the study guide answers on Wednesday night.  Stay on top of the work because it's getting too close to the end.

Study Guide Answers

I've got my eye on you so make sure you are studying and putting together a stellar notebook.  I've slowed the pace a bit so we all should have time to really do a bang up job on everything.

Here are the answers, but not all of them...consider yourself warned!!

Cliff Notes Version of 7th grade Social Studies

Cliffsonlyimportant_small_4ji3 AHHHH!  The day is upon us!  I just finished what I would consider to be the bare bones of 7th grade Social Studies.  It feels like a lot because it did end up as about 7 pages...and I left out a few things too!  Looking and reviewing this should help you to feel good going into the test tomorrow.

Relax and get plenty of rest after studying, but honestly, I think we are all going to do great.  You have worked very hard this year and have shown that you have been taught and inspired at least a little bit.

If you end up downloading this info, please leave me a comment so I know who you are.  I want to see who my rock stars are!

Happy cramming! : )

A different kind of Dominoes...

SIGN_dominos Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday were spent talking about the Korean conflict, Vietnam War, and China. Most classes had a Mystery Box with dominoes in it to represent the domino theory and containment of communism.  I put up the Domino's Pizza because it's delicious!

For both the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War students watch a BrainPop to preview the information.  Then students read an article and completed some fill in the blank notes.  Every class went over the answers in class so students should be squared away.

All classes were given a notebook entry about Mao and the Great Leap Forward which needs to be done when they walk in on Monday...remember Monday has a skinny day schedule.  6th period and 2nd period were also given an entry about the Cultural Revolution and Tienanmen Square.

CRCT prep is also in full force these days. Please continue to encourage kids to review.  Also, kids need to be encouraged that techniques in prep can be used on the CRCT.  I want to see so many students writing all over that CRCT!!!  I want to see pictures of houses and people and I want underlining and all that jazz.  I'll be putting some CRCT Cliffs Notes on the blog next week.  I am getting excited to watch my children really defeat that test!

I love y'all and hope that you will really achieve!

Communism vs. Capitalism

Communism Welcome back!!  I know some people are having a hard time adjusting to being back, but we only have 6 more weeks of school and I think we can all make it.

CRCT prep is happening in a major way in all classes so students need to come ready to review and apply test taking strategies.

Monday/Tuesday was spent learning about Communism and Capitalism to set us up for our studies of China, N. & S. Korea, and Vietnam.  Students were given jobs at random and had to use their money to live.  They did this for both types of economies and did a great job figuring out similarities and differences for each. The kids loved the activity because they really could taste real life through it...and they were very opinionated about fairness and what's best for everyone.

Students also completed a comparison chart about the two types of economies which sparked some great discussion.

Lastly, we watched 2 BrainPop videos:  one on Communism and one on the cold war.  We were tight on time so all loose ends will be tied up on Wednesday.

Start resting up now and practicing good habits before the CRCT comes!

Intro to Japan

Tropical I wish I was going to be in this picutre for Spring Break and I am totally jealous of people who are!

Thursday/Friday we began our history unit and had some major things to do.  Most people finished everything and don't have homework.  When we return we have a lot to do so rest up!

I will be posting grades over the break but not grading.  If it was not done by Friday, it won't be graded.  Also, if it is a notebook you are missing, I won't take it for a grade.  You will have to do with your partial credit.

Have a safe and happy Spring Break!

March goes out like a lamb...

Lamb4 Am I the only one who knows that old saying (In like a lion and out like a lamb or vice versa)?  I feel like I might be.

One thing to note, is that as the year draws to a close, life gets busier and blogs become more infrequent.  I will do my best, but I make no promises.

However, I did promise that I would put something on the blog about the study guide.  It is not the answers you are used to so please know you will still have some work to do. I am trying to prepare you for 8th grade.  Here you can: Download Study Guide Answers.  Notebooks are also due and I think a lot of people might need to spend some hours tonight finishing.  I don't want to work over Spring Break so I want them graded when I leave on Friday.

Study hard!
