Bonjour tous!

We are currently studying chapter 7.  In this chapter, we will learn how to introduce and describe the various members of our families.  We will also learn how to conjugate the verb TO BE (être) and how to use it in a sentence. Soon we will learn how to ask for permission and either give or refuse permission.  We will also learn how to discuss various jobs around the house.  I am very pleased with the progress of my students.  Many of them are showing signs of becoming fluent in French!

A bientôt,

Madame Ferrante

Bonjour tout le monde!

We have recently completed Chapter 4 and our unit on Paris.  Students should now know the main attractions in Paris, where the attractions are located and something about them.  Currently, we are beginning Chapter 5.  This chapter will introduce the vocabulary for food and beverages along with information on how to get the waiters attention in a restaurant, how to order food, how to request the bill and how to pay for things with the Euro (the currency used in France and many other European countries).  In other words, we are learning "survival skills" for a trip to a French speaking country.  The students will be assigned a project to create a menu for a French café, bistro or restaurant.  We will also make up and act out skits based on an experience in a French restaurant.  The menus the students make will be used in their skits.  This activity is always fun as well as a good way of practicing what they have learned.

A bientôt,

Madame Ferrante

Bonne Année et Bon Retour à l'école mes élèves!

I hope that you all enjoyed the holidays and that you are rested and ready to return to your studies at school.  We will review the material that we covered before your vacation and you will have a quiz on the vocabulary in Chapitre 4, première étape on Thursday, January 8, 2009.  We will soon be learning how to describe the weather and talk about the months of the year and the seasons.  Of course, we will also learn how to express what activities we like to do based on the time of the year.

A bientôt

Bonjour tous!  The school year is going by very quickly and we are already half way through the second quarter.  Progress reports will be distributed Wednesday, November 19th. The French students are making great progress, and are now able to make and respond to requests and ask others what they need and tell what they themselves need. They will soon be able to tell what they would like and tell what they would like to do.  The colors and the numbers 60 through 201 will be introduced along with the EURO which is the currency used in France as well as many European countries.  We will be starting a project next week in which students will create booklets describing their school schedules, "Mon Emploi du Temps".  The students will be writing paragraphs (in French) for each one of their subjects.  The project will be due after Thanksgiving.

A bientôt,

Madame Ferrante

Bonjour mes élèves,

We have completed Chapitre 2 and have learned a great deal of new vocabulary.  We now know the names of school subjects, the days of the week, how to tell time, how to count to 59 and adjectives that describe school subjects.  In addition to our new vocabulary, we have also learned how to ask someone's opinion and to express our own opinion.  Students should be able to respond to the following questions with complete sentences in French:

  • Tu as quels cours aujourd'hui?
  • Tu as quelle heure?
  • Comment tu trouves ça?
  • Tu as maths à quelle heure?
  • Tu aimes l'histoire?

  • Qui a anglais à midi?

The verb AVOIR was presented and students now know how to use it both in general conversation as well as in idiomatic situations.

In Chapitre 3, we will learn how to make and respond to requests as well as how to tell what you would like and what you would like to do.

The students are progressing well and I am proud to say that they are on their way to becoming fluent in French!

A tout à l'heure,

Madame Ferrante

Bonjour!  We are almost half way through the first quarter and we are learning how to express our likes and dislikes in French.  Our French vocabulary is expanding rapidly and we can speak in complete sentences.  If students want permission to do something such as sharpening their pencil or getting a drink of water, they are now able to do so in the target language.  We will be learning about "er" verbs soon and this will enable us to say many more things.  There will be a test on Chapter 1 in the near future.

Au revoir

Madame Ferrante

Bonjour tout le monde.  This is the third week of school and we have started the first part of chapter one.  We learned different ways of greeting people both formal and casual, we can ask how someone is doing and we have learned how to say how we are doing.  We can also ask someone their age and tell someone our age.  Next week, there will be a quiz on classroom instructions and the alphabet.

BonWeekend.

Madame Ferrante

Bonjour et Bienvenue au Blog Français!

Welcome to the French class blog for the school year 2008-2009!  This is the second week of school, and our French classes have already accomplished quite a bit!  Last week, we learned to count from 0 to 20.  The students can tell you their name and ask someone their name, and we all know how to say hello and goodbye in French.  This week, we will have a quiz on the French numbers.  We will learn the alphabet and all of the French accent marks and how the accents change the sound of the letters and words.  At the end of the week, we will start chapter 1 in our textbook  Allez, viens!   The students are excited to learn a new language and I anticipate a rewarding and successful year.
