I am having surgery on Friday and will be out from 4-6 weeks. I am hoping it is 4 weeks and I will be back before winter break. When I get back, I will hopefully be able to make up some speech time with the students. Thanks for your understanding.

Speech-language classes are underway.  Students are reviewing their goals and objectives and are getting to know the other students in their group.  I have grouped the students together with similar goals and objectives to facilitate a more successful therapy session. 

The students who are working to improve their articulation skills may receive practice homework.  Please practice the homework with your child a couple of times a week.  Sign the homework sheet and the student should bring it back to speech class the following week.

Welcome to Speech-language

School is under way and we are all looking forward to the new school year. 

 My name is Maryann Bednarz and I have been a speech-language pathologist with Cobb County for 16 years.  I have my American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Compotence and have a Georgia license.  I have a masters degree from the University of Wisconsin and from Georgia State Univ.  I also have a specialists degree from Lincoln Memorial University. 

I will be meeting all the students who are in speech-language during the next week and will be putting a schedule together.  Each student will then be given a card with their speech time on it and it will be kept in their agenda.  Students will be scheduled to see me out of one of their connection classes so students will not have to miss an academic class.

Speech-language update

We are well into the second quarter and students are working hard.  Speech-language students are seen mainly during their connection classes and changes to the speech schedule have to be made for this quarter. 

Litererature based activities are often used to help students reach their individual goals for speech-language class.  If you have any specific questions regarding your child's speech-language therapy, please don't hestitate to contact me.
