1/27/12 Notebooks are due and we have a major Test over the Human Body on Tuesday, Jan 31.

Good for you for checking the BLOG!! Today we organized our notebooks, completed the back of the System Summary Page, and got a printed study guide. Some classes watched part of the Bill Nye Video on the Brain.

In addition to finding the definitions to the vocabulary words that we added to the back of the study guide, a good way to review for the test would be to correct your pre-test from 1/11 and the Quiz we took 1/24. Study, study, study.  You need to know the fuction for each system and be able to identify pictures of the systems.  Good luck studying!

Human Body Computer Lab ~ Tuesday, January 17, 2012

Today we continue to learn about the organs and organ systems of the human body.  AC students see the note below before you begin.  All the websites and questions are on this page which you can print first or type on and print when complete Download Computer-lab-human-body-numbrix-and-hurkle

AC students before you begin please turn in the Systems Summary Page from Friday's computer lab and write a paragraph about which specialty or residence you hope to get - see the residency pages.

Computer Lab for Friday January 13th

   Your task today is to begin to research the systems of the human body and record what you learn on the System Summary Sheet for the Nervous, Cardiovascular, Endocrine, and Lymphatic Systems (ONLY). For the major organs - list 3 for each of those systems and give a really short description of what that organ does. There are two ways that you can get this information. 

 1) Use the innerbody website. Investigate the diagram and then select Nervous System Overview above the diagram. Notice that the overview of the system is on the left and that will tell you the fuction. If your scroll way down under the diagram it will describe the organs (remember 3 per system). Also on the left (yesterday it was at the bottom of the page, today it is near the top) is a box of links to take you to the other system pages.  Here is the website:  http://www.innerbody.com/image/nervov.html   Or you can . . .

2) Use the online text book at http://my.hrw.com  and go to those page numbers listed on the worksheet and skim for the information requested for each system. Remember your password is on the 1st page 19 of your agenda.

When you are finished with those 4 systems please visit each of these websites which would also be great for practice from home.

Computer Lab ~ December 13, 2011

Complete the first five tasks and then either work on your Science Fair Experiment Report or visit the enrichment web sites at the bottom of the work sheet.  Work smart today.  Here is the assignment for today AC Science your test over Chapters 3 and 4 is this Friday.  7th and 2nd period your test is on Tuesday, Dec 20.  You should be reading over your notes every night.  See Mrs. A. if you want to come to GPS this Friday to get organized or review. All notebooks must be organized and ready to turn in when you walk into class on Tuesday. Here is the worksheet use this for the links and save it to your log-in and then print and turn in. Computer Lab ~ November 15

Today you have several tasks. Read through all the tasks and then go back and start at task 1. If you have not taken the test from last Friday, read through this entry and go see a teacher to take the test.

Task 1. Go to Pinnacle and check your grades.  Open your agenda and make a note of any missing work for any of your classes.  Then make a plan to get that work done at home. You are not working on late work today unless you finish all the other tasks.

Task 2.  Go to www.usatestprep.com Log in and add yourself to the correct Arrington class.  Go to Classes and then at the left select join a class.  Choose 2011 and your period.

Task 3.  All Arrington Science students have to design an experiment.  The brainstorm page is due as part of your lab grade for today. If you would like to submit your experiment to compete in the Cobb County Science Fair, your idea has to be approved by Ms. Stillson, the 8th grade AC science teacher.  2nd and 7th period students, you have to design an experiment and complete the first 4 steps of the scientific method for the experiment you design - this will be due before Christmas.  AC classes, you have to design and complete an experiment.  This will be a project grade for 3rd quarter and is due when you return from the December break. If your idea is approved by Ms. Stillson, you do all the work and submit your experiment for the official Science Fair you will earn an extra 100% test grade for the 3rd quarter. The Science Fair resources are 2 pages back on this blog or go to link to begin your research. 

2nd and 7th Periods Computer Lab for Monday, November 7th

Today you will reinforce what we have been learning about cells.  This Friday, 11/11/11 we have a quiz over cell parts (their function and their location in a cell) and the microscope lab.  You need to memorize the Matching Cell Parts Worksheet. You can use that last column to list an analogy or key words that you will look for in the definition or you could write a tweet definition - really short and to the point; use it for what ever will help you prepare for the quiz.

Today you will receive a study guide for the test. This is a homework grade that must be done when you get to class either Wednesday for 7th period and Thursday for 2nd period.  You will remember that your on-line text book is found at http://my.hrw.com  Your user name and password is written on the first page 19 of your agenda.

Today you will reinforce what we have been learning about cells.  This Friday, 11/11/11 we have a test over cell parts (their function and their location in a cell), the microscope lab and the difference between plant and animal cells and eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells.
